On the 2nd day of Christmas…Movies and Linda O’Connor

So, as a kid I can remember the usual festive suspects – Rudolph, Frosty, Charlie Brown… But as I grew up, I began to appreciate holiday movies in a whole new way.  For me, it’s all about the nostalgia.

When I was younger, my mom would always put White Christmas on as we decorated the Christmas tree.  I loved the singing (oh, Bing!), the costumes, Danny Kay.  But most of all, I loved my mother’s commentary.  She’d tell me every movie Bing and Danny had ever been in, just who Rosemary Clooney was, and tidbits and other information that made me question if she’d ever had a job working for Variety.  She always knew everything about every movie, but White Christmas was her favorite.  And no matter how many times she’d tell me just what my Grandfather thought of Vera-Ellen’s thigh gap, it was like hearing it for the first time, year after year.

In White Christmas, there’s a little bit of deceit that eventually turns into love…just like in Linda O’Connor’s upcoming release – Perfectly Honest.

You never know where your words will take you.

When Mikaela Finn agreed to be Sam’s ‘fiancée’ for a weekend, she probably should have told him that she’s a doctor. Sam O’Brien, aka ‘Dr. Eye Candy’, is trying to shed his playboy reputation and convince a small town hospital that he’s ready to settle down. But when his ‘fiancée’ helps deliver a baby in the middle of the meet and greet, it’s a bit of a shock. If he’d known the whole truth, he might have done things a little differently because somehow his ‘fiancée’ ends up stealing his job and his heart. Not exactly the change he wanted. Lies and deceit – it’s a match made in heaven!

On the 1st day of Christmas…Fudge and Author Meda White!

My true love gave to me…dessert!

Memories of the holidays always seem to center around my Gramma’s house, more specifically, Gramma’s food.  She would put out a spread and we’d eat for hours.  Years later, my mother continued this tradition and now that I have a house and kids of my own, it seems only natural that I do the same.

For me, no Christmas is complete without fudge.  Now, there are a lot of recipes out there, but I find this particular one to be the absolute best.  Unfortunately, I can’t say it’s my Gramma’s secret recipe – it’s actually Better Homes and Gardens’.

Simple Fudge:

1 1/2 cups of sugar

1 – 5 oz can of evaporated milk

1  stick of butter (don’t even try to use margarine)

2  cups of tiny marshmallows

1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips

1/2 cup of walnuts (chopped, chunks, whatever you like)

1/2 teaspoon vanilla

First, line a square baking dish with foil and butter it up.  Then, butter a sauce pan and then combine butter, sugar, evap. milk.  Cook it for about 10 minutes – the mixture should be boiling.  Reduce the heat down to medium and continue stirring for about another 6 minutes.  Then remove from the heat, add the marshmallows, then the chocolate, then vanilla.  Finally, add the nuts (always optional), and pour the mixture into your pan.  Let it sit for a couple hours in the fridge and then you have almost 2 pounds of delicious fudge to serve at your holiday celebration.
